I am a 4th year midwifery student from Mount Royal University. I am excited to be placed at Aurora Midwifery and have the absolute privilege of being on Anne-Marie and Sara’s team for the year.
For as long as I can remember, I knew that I would work in health care. I was amazed by the human body and loved working with people. I began my journey by pursuing a health science degree with the thought that I would then apply to medical school. After two years, I decided to take some time off to do some volunteering and travelling. After living in Argentina for 6 months, I decided that medicine wasn’t the path I wanted to continue on, and switched my focus to pursue midwifery. I loved the continuity of care, the partnership of providing information and resources to help clients make informed choices regarding their pregnancy and birth, and having options of where to give birth. Upon my return to Canada, I became a doula. I caught my first baby in Honduras with a local doctor in a public hospital where I was volunteering and it confirmed that there was no other career that I wanted to spend my life doing. That year, I was accepted into the bachelor of midwifery program at MRU and have been enjoying every minute of it since. I have attended over 200 births and am always amazed at how unique each birth is.
There is no greater honour than being a part of your care, and being one of the first people to welcome your baby into the world. I look forward to meeting and working with you during your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.
