Shannon Kaltenbruner

Hello there! My name is Shannon Kaltenbruner, and I am a 4th year midwifery student from Mount Royal University. I am so excited to be part of Aurora Midwifery from Sept 2017 to April 2018. I am thrilled to will be working with Kimberley Schmidt.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Calgary (1995), and I acquired my prenatal instruction certification from Vancouver Community College in 1997, and have taught prenatal classes for Alberta Health Services, and Calgary Childbirth Education and Doula Association. I was also a doula for 18 years.

In 2014, I decided it was time to hit the books again and pursue the biggest dream of my life – to finally become a midwife. With the support of my whole family, I went back to school, and I have been truly loving it.
The most important thing I have accomplished in my life is becoming a mom of two daughters, who are 21 & 12 years old, and who were both born into the loving hands of Calgary midwives. My girls have been my greatest teachers in life, as they have taught me what it means to love unconditionally, and what it means to let go and trust the sometimes-difficult process of life.

I have deep trust in birth, and I know that ultimately birth works. I have attended just over 120 births, both as a doula and a midwifery student, and I look forward to meeting and serving the clients of Aurora Midwifery.
