I am very excited to join Aurora Midwifery. I lived in Calgary for over 20 years before I pursued my midwifery degree at Ryerson University, Toronto, On. I have a background in paediatric nursing from University Medicine Mainz, Germany. I worked as a paediatric nurse in infant neurology at the University Hospital, Mainz and at NICU, at University Hospital in Frankfurt, before immigrating to Calgary, Canada in 1995.I worked as a midwife at Blessing Way Midwifery, Rocky Mountain House, AB, where I served women from Sunchild and O’Chiese First Nations. I came to midwifery through self exploration as well as my own childbirths experiences. I faced both, a frightening emergency Cesarian section leaving me feeling powerless and deprived, as well as a very autonomous and gentle VBAC. I believe that a woman’s journey through pregnancy and birth requires her own wisdom and natural resources to face herself in the pure beauty of her individual creation.
I cherish the midwifery model of care and how it can empower women in trusting and embracing their bodies in labour and childbirth. I am passionate about improving antenatal care and birth experiences for women, especially in high risk and underprivileged communities. I feel honoured to join the 5th team, and to offer my services, inspiration, and advocacy to the
Aboriginal clients at Aurora Midwifery.
